🥕 Fun Carrot Facts

  • Carrots weren’t always orange! The original carrots were purple, yellow, or white. The orange variety we know today was cultivated in the Netherlands in the 17th century — possibly as a tribute to the Dutch Royal Family, the House of Orange.
  • Carrots can be sweet as candy. Cold weather turns carrots even sweeter! As temperatures drop, carrots convert starches into natural sugars to protect themselves — it’s nature’s antifreeze.
  • They’re great for your eyes — but not just because of vitamin A. Yes, carrots are rich in beta-carotene (which your body converts to vitamin A), but they also support skin health, immunity, and even lung function.
  • You can eat the tops too! Carrot greens are edible and slightly bitter — great in pesto, soups, or sautéed with garlic and lemon.
  • They grow surprisingly deep. The world record for the longest carrot is over 6.2 metres (20.3 feet) long — that’s taller than a giraffe!
